In early October 2020 I wanted to capture the Little Sable Point Lighthouse under the Milky Way before the Milky Way core moved below the southern horizon for the winter. As I was taking the photos used to create this image I realized there was a little wildfire smoke visible along the horizon. Although I was initially concerned about the smoke ruining the image, it had a fascinating effect of enhancing the glow of city lights across Lake Michigan in a translucent, illuminated haze along the horizon.

The Little Sable Point Lighthouse stands prominently on the curved shoreline that juts out into the turquoise waters of Lake Michigan near the Silver Lake State Park on the western shores of Michigan's lower peninsula.
